I seem to have a nasty virus/rootkit. On a 250GB hard drive it is showing only 40GB free space, though there should be about 200GB free space. Have run Symantec Endpoint Protection scan, malwarebytes (which found and supposedly removed rootkits), combofix (which seemed to also take too long - after a popup said that it had to perform a "deep scan") and finally am running SVRT which has been running all day and apparantly is about 4% done though, unlike combofix, I can see that it is scanning files (slowly) .
Question is... should I stick with it or should I just reformat the machine after copying whatever data I can? I have to use this computer to work.
Also (suggestion) is it feasible to add a "pause scan" option so that the computer could be used during the day and scan resumed at night on future releases?
Appreciate any feedback you can give me.
