"Clean Up Threat" greyed out

I have run Sophos AntiVirus on my iMac each month. After scanning for a long time today it found two Windows-only "threats" — Mal/JavaGen-A and PHP/C99Shell-A.
Quarantine Manager said I must clean them up manually anyway. I unlocked Sophos and clicked Clean Up Threat button. It ran for a long time agin and then looked exactly like when I first opened, saying again "Cleanup of the threat was not successful" and I must clean it up manually. Only now the Clean Up Threat button is greyed out. What am I supposed to do? And it has re-locked itself.

  • You'll need to create a custom scan and enable the "delete threat" option, which will delete the files instead of attempting to clean the malicious code out of them.  However, if these are in an archive, deleting may still not work.  In this case, you should just go and manually remove the offending files using the Finder or your backup software (Time Machine, etc).
