Downloading issues

I am running Mac OS X 10.4.11 and my internet browser is Safari. I was directed to download the free download for antivirus protection from your website. I have browsed the posts and am just getting into more of a mental pickle.

When I click on the download my Mac download screen shows it has downloaded the first 5MB of a 76MB file and then it seems to hang and tells me first 6min then goes up to 6 hours and up to 21 hours for download time. I have tried it at various times of the day thinking perhaps it was my connection but I am having absolutely no luck. Now I am wondering if this is actually suited for use on my laptop. My computer knowledge is pretty basic as you might have noticed :>

Could you please advise me, this seems like a wonderful tool to have on my Mac.

Are you downloading from here: http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-antivirus-for-mac-home-edition/download.aspx ?
I presume from your post that you're running a G4 PowerBook?
The download goes through Akamai, which is a high speed distributed service, so there shouldn't be slowdowns in the actual download in normal use. Personally I get a little pause at around 15MB and again at around 50MB; I think this is just due to the data being written to disk, however.
You might want to open up Disk Utility and run a permissions and a filesystem scan to ensure your computer data isn't corrupted.
