What do I do?

I saw a sign on my 13" MacBkPro: "you're computer is infected".  I registered and Downloaded Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition .  Is that it? Do I have to do anything further to clean my computer? If so, what?

    Loaded with "Fake Virus" and similar Trojans. Have no idea where they came from since I was not on the internet when they arrived. Sophos Instructions say to handle it Manually. Top do this, I'm told to create a Custom Scan. What is that? How do I create a Custom Scan? What are the words I use to accomplish this?
