Sophos and Mac Mail

Hi,

Have not found this topic on the forum board and sorry if it is the wrong area to post it.

I am presuming that Sophos for Mac`s real time protection includes all read > write actions to my HD, if so when I open Mail do downloaded emails to my accounts get scanned?

The reason I am asking because I see no information regarding this either within the Sophos 7 user manual or any generated log files on my system.

Your assumption is correct; I believe I covered this in an old thread on here last November/December, as part of a related topic.

One thing to look out for: if you're using IMAP instead of POP3, it's possible that in some circumstances the mail might not get written to disk, just loaded directly into memory.  However, anything malicious would have to be downloaded prior to execution, and so should show up in the log.

  • Hi Andrew,

Again thank you for your quick response, I thought this might be the case and am reassured re protection as I receive a lot of sound files via emails from work associates to work on who run windows PC`s.

I do not worry about getting a windows infection but defiantly do not want to pass one on. Thank you again and will add this is an extremely informative and friendly forum.
