Quarantine question

I just ran a scan and some 8 files were quarantined with trojan or malware. Can't clean up. Have looked at the manual clean up instructions and they seem way too complicated. If I leave the files in quarantine will they not do any damage? Or is there a way easily to delete them?

    The easiest way to do a manual clean up is to create a custom scan of the volume the items were detected on, and then clean up when the scan has once again detected the files.  If you leave the files in quarantine, they will not do any damage as long as on-access scanning is enabled, but they will likely hamper the performance of your mac very slightly.

    The most common places to find malware on Macs are: the Java WebCache (a hard to get to folder for novices) which isn't a big deal, as the cache gets purged fairly regularly, and the files are likely windows-only anyway and on Time Machine backups (which require careful removal -- it's best to remove files from Time Machine directly through the Time Machine interface).  Malware found anywhere else is rarer, but should be easier to clean -- either by doing a spotlight search for the filename and tossing it in the trash, or by the aforementioned custom scan and remove.
