  • There are some organizations or companies which specialize on regularly evaluating AV products. Not only is it practically impossible for a single person to compare products based on the threat-detection database (there are hundreds of thousands entries) but also it's only one aspect. It is also important how a product deals with "unknown" threats, how long a it takes a company to react to new threats and how successful it is in actually detecting the threats. So one vendor might have only a single entry but reliably detect all past and future instances of this threat whereas another constantly fails to "proactively" detect modified versions but will a month or so after the "mutated" threat has been identified (because it sneaked in and caused damage) include another entry in the database. The "list of threats" won't tell you which is better.
