Phishing - Protection for Safari - Firefox

Hi together,

whats the best Way to stay shure before Webphishing in Safari or Firefox.

Test the Links in Phishtank they open sometimes - will not blocked.

Can i block it with - DNS Server - Test

These DNS didnt block all Phishingsites.

  • There is no way to block all phishing sites -- however, running Firefox with NoScript and keeping your user agent set to something other than MacOS are goot starting points.  I also use a Firefox domain highlighting plugin that makes the part of the uri that's the actual domain a different colour than the rest, and run flagfox plugin too, so I can tell what country the domain is hosted in.

    If you want more protection, you'll probably need a web appliance between your endpoints and the internet where you can set policies on what to allow and what not to allow.

    OpenDNS and GoogleDNS do provide some anti-phishing protection, but Firefox gets the same phish list feed as GoogleDNS (although slightly delayed) -- I'm not sure where OpenDNS pulls its feeds from.

    [edit] And of course, SAV for Mac also detects phishing pages based on content if they touch permanent storage (via page caching, etc).
