Memory Leak on 10.8.1

Using version 8.0.6C on mac os 10.8.1 and it just CHEWS AWAY at the memory!! I have 16GB of RAM and I quit all my apps except for Sophos. I took a screen recording as well which shows how a full computer scan just keeps chewing up the RAM and when stopped the RAM isn't released (still shows up as INACTIVE).

Horrible stuff. The shocking part was the first time I opened up ACtivity Monitor (after realising something was wrong as the computer slowed down to a crawl) -- NO RAM LEFT!!

Anybody else seeing this HUGE leak?

  • Hi,

I faced the same problem as well. I got MacBook Pro mid-2012 running 10.8.1 and I upgraded memory to 16GB.

My MBP was significantly slow down and I noticed that soon after I installed Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition.

Here my finding if I boot up my MBP for the fresh reboot, memory leak won't be observed. Once I put my MBP in sleep,

and then wake it up I will see that suddenly free memory nearly 14GB before getting sleep left only 4.xx GB

righ after waking my MBP up. Then I can see memory leak continuing. Free memory was continuously decreasing until less than 10MB.

I could see exactly the same as you that the portion of inactive memory substantially increasing.

I also found that MBP took time to get sleep and to wake up noticeably longer time than usual.

For this reason, I uninstalled Sophos and then my MBP is now running as fast as it was before.

I did test to take my MBP sleep and wake it up. Memory leak was gone. It took much quicker to get sleep and wake up.
