I could use some help.

Question

Today I downloaded Sophos so I'm not quite sure if I followed the right steps. The first thing I did was a scan of my computer. It came up with a
threat for OSX/Flshplyr-E. When I attempted to clean it up, it told me I
had to do it manually. After looking up the trojan online, I took the necessary
steps to delete it. Terminal reported the files did not exist. I'm not one
hundred percent happy with the results. This was earlier this afternoon. Just now, I did another scan and the same threat is registering. The reason I downloaded Sophos in

the first place was because I knew I had some sort of virus. My computer
has been slow, programs seem to have a mind of their own, and just
generally acting up. Obviously I'm very concerned for the safety of my
personal information along with the computer itself. If someone could just give me some peace of mind, it would be much appreciated.

Where was the threat detected? At the bottom of the Quarantine Manager window, it should show you the path to the infection. It's possible the detection is in your Time Machine backup.

Also, "Manual cleanup" is a holdover from our Enterprise product -- it means you have to run cleanup on the computer where the detection was found, instead of just telling that computer to clean up from the enterprise console (the IT manager getting it done automatically).

To clean up, you should be able to create a custom scan, selecting the folder containing the file detected. Then, select "move and quarantine" or "delete" instead of "notify". Run the scan, and the file should be cleaned up.

However, if the detection is on your Time Machine volume, you're better off to delete all backups of the file from within the Time Machine interface itself.
