Sophos Virus Removal crashes on startup

I just installed Sophos Virus Removal Tools and tried to run it, but it crashes right immediately(from both UI and command prompt) with Windows message

Sophos Virus Removal Tool GUI has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Log shows nothing:

What it can be and why Sophos is using winhttp.dll on startup?

    Strange.  I've just run a command line scan and winhttp.dll isn't used.  Maybe be something on your system and therefore see if any other process is using the dll file from a command prompt...

    tasklist /m winhttp.dll

    Plus, if you can (don't know how long the scan runs for before crashing) try and run the above after starting the scan and see if a Sophos process is used.  Basically: track down if when and what is using the DLL file.

    If the DLL is a deadend it may just be tossed out because of another problem.  Hence look back through the event viewer for other errors.

    General advice is:  Uninstall the SVR tool; use Windows updates to full patch the OS; reboot a couple of times and then check the event viewer for very recent problems.  If it looks OK go for a reinstall of the SVR tool and try again.
