Major issues with Lion

Ever since I upgraded to Lion, I've been having serious slow-downs and freezes on my new Macbook Pro. At first, I thought the issues were hardware related, but after 3 weeks of good days and bad days, I finally removed Sophos Antivirus from my computer. Interestingly, I have had no issues since.

  • Update:  I've had Sophos turned off for 2 days on my ML installation.

Normally, under Snow Leopard, I'd have to restart the Mac every 6 hours ago, as it got really slow.  I never tied that issue to Sophos until now.

Under Mountain Lion, it was every 4 hours.  It would also take the computer minutes to open my applications folder list, and sub lists.  Now it's extremely fast, like it should be.  I'm thinking this was the same issue under SL, as I resorted to using Spotlight to open some apps rather than waiting.

Since I've had Sophos active scanning turned off, it went for 2 days lightning fast, and was still working fine up until I deleted Sophos and restarted a few minutes ago.

I've since installed ClamXAV and will use that for on demand scanning every once in a while, even if it does not catch as many Windows viruses as Sophos.

If Sophos rebuilds the product to make it work much better, I'll reconsider.  But, even for a free product, it was killing my productivity.
