A really basic question

I have just installed Sophos for Mac on my MBP. I have run a full system scan too.

(By the way, some large .dmg files I have for Office 2011 and Google Earth etc took a long time, but it finished eventually without any particular problem)

Now, there is the "shield" in the task bar and the preferences are set for on-access scanning.

Does this mean that I can now "quit" the main application in the dock, in order perhaps to reduce the overhead in the computer memory?

Thanks for any clarification.

  • I was too hasty; Sophos does update:I looked at the log again this morning, and the it does show a daily communication by Sophos with its primary server, saying it was upadated, even during the past few days when Sophos was not launched and did not appear in the Dock. I was just too anxious, and I appreciate your reassurance.
