Anti-Rootkit Results -- Hidden Files

Hello, Just wanted to confirm of get information about Sophos Free Anti-rootkit Utility. I keep getting hidden files in the folder that I keep my program installers in. I've checked with Hidden files turned on, and the hidden files indicated by Sophos do not exist, although the original unhidden copy does. Is this a unimportant glitch? Thanks for any assistance glennc

  • Hi Glenn,

Files that are hidden by means other than atrrib -h, that is to say have the "Hidden" file attribute, will not show up when you uncheck "Show hidden files and folders" in Explorer.

Has Sophos warned you that these files are infected or malicious? Or does it merely state that the files are hidden? If the latter, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about, if the former, then please go ahead and use the recommended cleanup with SAR.

I hope this is of help to you.

    Kind regards,

    Darrel.
