Unsupported tools and scripts

We've seen some lively discussions out in the market about third party (often freely downloadable) tools and scripts. These are not solutions that Sophos can either recommend or support, but they may have genuine value in helping users. Let us know what you've found useful, and why. Tell us your stories. Including platform details, software packages, version numbers and so on will help us to understand whether you've found a hole in our own product offerings, or whether we haven't been very effective at documenting a feature that's really there already.

For us, there's no better source of insight into what users can and cannot do with Sophos products than the users themselves (you). If you've needed an unsupported tool to do the job, tell us all about it.

  • I have a script for SafeGuard Enterprise which will traverse the computers of the Directory and output which features are installed including the versions. While you can get this information in the SGN MC, the script enables you to have ASCII output for your own creative endeavors.

This script was tested against SGN 5.35 and 5.40. Before I post the script, I first wanted to see if there is interest. Express your interest by replying with a positive or negative confirmation.

  • I would like to see your script and all others on this site!  The products typically don't come with any types of scripts, so any community scripts, sample pages for the Web Appliance, or any other items would be GREATLY appreciated.  Maybe a discussion group set specifically to "contributions"!

  • Hi MGH,

    Thanks for visiting the forum.

The script I'm mentioning is specially for SafeGuard Enterprise (SGN). I unfortunately, do not have scripts for any of the other products. If you have SGN, then you will find about 9 scripts in the AdminCD.zip file in the samples folder.

The script I offered is a modification of the InventoryAPI.vbs script which rather than specifying a single computer, it will traverse the SGN Directory.
