I have a problem in eradicating this from my backup drive. I have been instructed to clean this up manually, which is what I have done but it won't go! Is it harmful sitting there? Unfortunately the backup file it is sitting in the first backup I made with a new hard disc, so I don't want to bin it!

    It's only harmful to Windows computers.  This file gets dropped by drive-by downloaders and when run, installs malware on Windows.  That said, if it's in a Time Machine backup, you should just be able to go into Time Machine and right click on it to delete all backups of the file.
