ANNOUNCEMENT: Version 8 of Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac now available

I wanted to let all our SAV for Mac Home Edition customers know that today we released SAV for Mac Home Edition Version 8.

We’’’’ll begin rolling out the new version automatically to Home Edition users in a few weeks time. You don't need to do anything to benefit from the new features.

If you want to get the new version straightaway, you can download it for free here: http://www.sophos.com/freemacav

This release includes a number of new enhancements including:

  • Scheduled Scans: Now, in addition to On-Access and On-Demand Custom Scans, you can also create Scheduled Scans to run automatically on a pre-defined schedule
  • Live Protection: Gives you a direct connection to the very latest information we have about new Mac threats. Using our global intelligence network, we can identify new threats quickly and make sure your Mac is protected—immediately. Live Anti-Virus has been available in our Windows products for a while now and I'm really excited that our Mac customers will now be able to benefit. Find out more about what it does by watching this short video
  • Enhanced user-interface: We’’’’ve improved the user-interface and made the product even easier to use

Please note that in order for Live Protection to check for new malware it requires sending a small amount of non-identifiable information about your system and suspicious files to the Sophos online services. At no time is any actual file content sent. If you're not comfortable with this, you can disable the feature by going to the Live Protection tab in Sophos Anti-Virus Preferences.

Thanks for using Sophos - we hope you enjoy this new release. As always, if you have any feedback, please use this forum and let us know.
