Moving clients to new server

I need to move a few machines from one server to another.  Does anyone know if I can simply generate a new config file from the new server and install over the existing install?  Version is 5.35 if it matters.

Also, we are going to be changing the IP addresses of our current load balancer. Does anyone know how the the config file stores the server addres?  By this I mean is it using the servername or the IP address?

  • Hi Jim,

thank you very much for bringing this one up.

WIth regards to your questions it depends on what you really want to do.

    So if you want

    1. Move the clients to a new SGN Server which will still talk to the original SafeGuard Enterprise database you can simply create a new client configuration package and everything will be fine.

    2. To move the clients to a newly setup back end (incl. a new DB) this will not be working. You would then have to reinstall the clients completely in this case before connecting them to the new back end.

The answer to your second questions is that the clients will connect to the server depending on the configuration. Further information how to configure a client to connect to a SafeGuard Enterprise server via IP rather than via FQDN can be found in  KBA 108260 (http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/108260.html)

    Regards

    Dan
