Using Sophos Safeguard 6.1 PE recovery, I am unable to see USB drives

I am trying to recover a HDD, using the 6.1 PE recovery CD. The PE environment does not detect any USB stick in any USB port on the Dell 7510. It only has USB 3 ports, is there anyway around this?
