Quick way to render hard drive unreadable/usable?

We have SGN 5.50.8 clients and just upgraded to 5.60.1 for the server.  Looking at some laptop clients that we have in the field, we would like to remotely render them unusable ( brick them ) so they can be removed from AD and the Management console for Sophos and donated/destroyed, etc.

What method for accomplishing this would work best remotely?  We have no feet on the floor to Win PE and run beinvvol.exe.

Thanks for any help!

  • There's one way off the top of my head. You could deploy a new policy with POA enabled and guest users disabled. Under the users tab for the computers in question, there is a block option, of which, to my understanding, will disable the user's login ability. Of course, I would also remove any kind of POA group and service accounts that may be assigned to the macine.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi cmichaels,

the most secure way would of cause be BEInvVol.exe but if that is not an option and depending on your needs, locking the POA in a way that aburns2 described (or alternatively adding a SGN Machine Specific Settings -> POA -> Access denied if no connection to server after x days" to the machine to lock the POA after x-days w/o server contact) might be a good solution.

    Cheers,

    Chris
