Encrypted files on External Hard Drive

I have an external hard drive that is connected my company laptop.  We run Sophos Safeguard 6.10. I did not realize that the file on the hard drive had been encrypted with a personal key. The cert on the laptop expired and was replace. The key to the encryption is no longer on the key ring. I do not know the passphrase to the encrypted files. Is there a way to recover the encrypted files on the external hard drive without the key?

  • According to our tech team, the info refers back to an ‘existing’ key on the server console.   This ‘key’ can be moved from the console to a PC that is trying to access the device in question.  Unfortunately for us, the key is always associated with the original existing cert which in this case no longer exists.
