SGN 6.0 Not Showing Encryption Status

I'm running into an issue where after installing SafeGuard Enterprise 6.0 on a client PC the "Sophos SafeGurd - Base Encryption Viewer" does not update or show any progress. This is the window that shows the Encryption Progress and doe not show an elapsed time or progress bar. I've experienced this with both Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7 x64 machines with standard SATA drives and with Fast initial encryption enabled. I have not tried it with Fast Initial Encryption disabled yet, still trying to get a couple more machines for our test environment.

Has anyone else experienced this?

  • That sounds like a policy issue not an issue with the client.  Check your RSOP for that computer and make sure you don't have a conflicting policy being deployed that specifically disables encryption or doesn't use it.  Also take in mind if you have security software blocking the SG keyring communicating or network issues communicating to/from the policy server it may send out the traffic but never get a response (happened to me, we use some STRONG proxy filtering).

Suggest using wireshark on the client with issues, make SURE it's sending out the XML traffic to the server and getting responses.  If it's doing that then check your policie, simplify them and make sure it's checking IN and you're getting updates.  If you check the status field when right clicking the keyring manager in the task bar it should give you the status of your userm should be owner or user, and make sure to check the last checked in and policy received.  Also make sure that you HAVE YOUR KEYRING AND BOTH THE COMPANY AND USER CERTS.  No user cert = no encryption keyring.

Those are just the basic things to check
