How do I un-encrypt a laptop with a corrupted windows installation.

Hi,

I have a laptop with SafeGuard Easy 5.6 running W7.

The windows OS is corrupted to the point where we can't add or remove programs, install updates etc.

I want to do a fresh install of windows but because i can't uninstall SafeGuard i can't decrypt the drive beforehand.

Can i use the Recovery CD to unencrypt the drive?

Can i install a fresh copy of windows onto an encrypted drive?

What options have i got?

  • I'm going to second slaving the drive.  I've used this before, and it works pretty well.

If this isn't available (for whatever reason), you could also boot from the recovery CD for whatever version you're running, use the recoverykeys program to unlock the drive and copy any data to removable media.
