Dell D620 will not boot with USB Hard drive connected

I have a Dell D620 laptop that will not boot is a USB hrad drive is connected. After entering logon information the winows disapeards and A hour glass is displayed. This does not go away and you have to power down the laptop and disconnect the drive. Bios is updated to latest version available. As long as usb is disconnected it boots properly. It is a windows 7 laptop and safeguard client is 5.5

    Hi Mike-F,

Thank you for posting your question in the SophoTalk Community forum. This is a known issue and you are taking the correct steps to boot properly. Stay tuned until a fix is available in a future release.

  • This "known issue" has been present since at least version 5.3.35 and actually applies to all usb storage solutions to include things such as blackberrys and happens on both XP and Win7.  A related issue seems to be a similar delay when booting into safe mode.

One fix to try is to use the Shift F5 hotkey which disables usb support during POA.
