changing motherboards on encrypted laptops

Hi All,

We've had the misfortune to end up with some problem motherboards (bad batch) on about 20 of 200 laptops. The laptop supplier has been fine, but their proposed solution is to change these motherboards on our site.

I need to know if the laptops are likely to work afterwards, or whether the sophos encryption wll fail to recognise the new motherboards or cause any other problems. I am concerned that the encryption might be tied to the specific motherboard the HDD is attached to and we'd have to copy off all the data beforehand.

    Sophos Safeguard does not "marry" the hard drive to the motherboard. We run SGE 6 at our site and we change motherboards out all the time without any issues to date.

    The only thing you want to watch out for, and this is true regardless of whether or not you're running Safeguard, is to make sure the time on the motherboard is set on first boot up to prevent issues with Active Directory.
