changing motherboards on encrypted laptops

Hi All,

We've had the misfortune to end up with some problem motherboards (bad batch) on about 20 of 200 laptops. The laptop supplier has been fine, but their proposed solution is to change these motherboards on our site.

I need to know if the laptops are likely to work afterwards, or whether the sophos encryption wll fail to recognise the new motherboards or cause any other problems. I am concerned that the encryption might be tied to the specific motherboard the HDD is attached to and we'd have to copy off all the data beforehand.

Hi James,
changing the motherboard with one that is identical to the original one should not cause any problems (BIOS settings should be kept 1:1).
Depending on what has changed on the new boards (USB/HDD controller or integrated graphics unit), it might be required to adjust the POA configuration using the hotkeys as per Knowledge Base Article
