Hi,
I'm in a terrible predicament which I'm hoping someone might be able to help me get out of.
The other day, I logged into my laptop without any issues. My password was valid, as I was able to move past the PBA without incident. Logging in never required a user name since I was set as the default user. After entering Windows, I went to: Control panel > User Accounts > Advanced tab > and unchecked the "Require users to press Ctrl+Alt+Del" option. After rebooting the machine, I was no longer able to access the machine with the same PBA password I'd just used 10 minutes earlier.
I've rebooted with the SGE 4.0.0 rescue disk, but it prompts me for both a user name and password. Since I was never assigned a user name, I wasn't sure what to enter, but needless to say, I've tried everything I could think of, including leaving it blank and using my Windows logon user name, all to no avail.
I've tried refeshing the MBR to bypass the PBA, but afterwards, I receive the "missing operating system" error message, which leads me to believe that the entire disk is encrypted. I used the rescue disk to restore the security kernel and fix the MBR, then tried logging into the laptop again with my previously valid password, without success.
Does anyone understand why this happened? Obviously, I must have broken something when unchecking the User accounts option I mentioned earlier, but how is it possible that the system would allow a change which would completely break the functionality. More importantly, can anyone assist me here? Is there any way I can regain access to my machine with my data intact?
I'm using SG Easy 4.0.0 and Windows XP SP3.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
