Pre-boot authentication screen still works but Win XP cannot load

Hi,

I have a problem with HP 6735b wich has installed SOPHOS SafeGuard 5.60.1.7 , I got something wrong with windows XP on it. When I turn on laptop I pass seccessfuly Pre-boot authentication screen and after "SafeGuard is loading OS now!" i see just black screen. I have some important information on it. Is it possible to retrieve the info from laptop?

Best Regards Ignas.

  • Hi Ignas,

You could try to boot into Windows Safemode after authenticating to POA (keep hitting "F8"-Key until the Windows XP boot menu appears and choose "Safemode") to repair your Operating System or recover any important information, or

depending on your client configuration and SafeGuard Enterprise Policy setup, you can either try to boot from CD after authenticating to POA and boot into a live environment to recovery your data and/or repair your operating system.

If you're not able to boot from CD after the POA because the SafeGuard Enterprise Policy does not allow you to do that, I'd recommend to have a look into the following KBA:

SafeGuard Device Encryption: Recovering data from a volume-based encrypted SafeGuard Device Encryption Client

    Cheers,

    Chris
