Dell Latitude E6420 with nvidia Optimus doenst work.

Hello,

we actually have some Problems with an Dell Latitude E6420, which has an nvidia Graphic with Optimus Technologie.

I've allready done some tests

These test are without Dockingstation:

- Laptopdisplay is open + Optimus is enabled --> OK

- Laptopdisplay is open + Optimus is disabled --> just see some flickering pixels instead of the Safeguard Login

- Laptopdisplay is open + Optimus is disabled + switched to VGA Mode --> OK

The following tests are with an Dockingstation + external Monitor, and the Laptopdisply is closed:

- Laptopdisplay is closed + Optimus is enabled + external Monitor is on VGA or DVI Port --> Black screen instead of the Safeguard Login

- Laptopdisplay is closed + Optimus is enabled + external Monitor is on VGA + switched to VGA Mode --> OK

- Laptopdisplay is closed + Optimus is enabled + external Monitor is on DVI + switched to VGA Mode --> Black screen instead of the Safeguard Login

- Laptopdisplay is closed + Optimus is disabled + external Monitor is on DVI --> Black screen

instead of the Safeguard Login

- Laptopdisplay is closed + Optimus is disabled + external Monitor is on VGA -->  just see some flickering pixels instead of the Safeguard Login

- Laptopdisplay is closed + Optimus is disabled + external Monitor is on VGA or DVI + switched to VGA Mode --> OK

Our Safeguard Version is 5.60.1.7 and the BIOS of the Laptop is up to Date.

Is there any way to get it working with enabled Optimus + external Monitor + VESA Mode?

Because we have many of these Laptops,  all with Dockingstation and at the most of these the Dockingstation is in an Monitorstand, so the Users are not able to Open the Laptopdisplay while it is in the Dockingstation.

  • Hi Nimo,

thank you very much for posting and the very good and intensive tests you have already carried out.

Can you please tell me if there are any video options in the BIOS of the machine that you could configure? This would be something that you could try to adjust.

If there is no other option available please open a new support call with your local helpdeks. When doing so please provide a msinfo32 saved as NFO and detailed information what docking station you are using. The issue will then be further analyzed.

    Regards

    Dan
