Converting SGN 6.0 clent from Stand-Alone config to Domain config

We have a single workstation (laptop) that was originally configured as a stand-alone client.  The laptop was not a member of the domain and needed a stand-alone SGN client configuration.  We are now joining it to our AD domain and I have got it in the appropriate OU in the SafeGuard Management Center.  I have uninstalled the stand-alone client config and installed our domain client config, but it will not pick up the domain policies that are set (POA, encryption settings, etc.).

I'm not sure what to do at this point.  The drive is currently encrypted and I can't get it to allow me to un-encrypt it because it won't pick up the setting.  I would uninstall all of the SafeGuard programs on the machine, but I'm afraid if I do I'll "brick" the drive (I'm assuming if all SG software is uninstalled, there is nothing to allow access to the encrypted volume).

There is nothing of importance on the drive, so if i had to wipe it and reinstall everything from scratch, I'm not out anything but time.  But I have to believe there is a way to change the client configurations and have it pick up the new settings properly.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric

  • At this point if you cannot get passed the POA then there is not a whole lot that can be done. if you cannot syncronize the new policies to the enpoint then its not going to work. I recommend a wipe and re-image, add it to the domain, and then install Sophos after its already on the domain. Make sure in the managment Center you have right clicked on the domain and requested a inventory refresh which will make sure nothing new has been added or removed. If its in AD it should be good once it is wiped and re-imaged.

  • Actually, my issue is the opposite of that.  It has disabled POA and will not pick up the policy to enable it.  It actually boots up fine and is connected/communicating with the domain/SGN Server.  But it won't pick up the policy changes.  It even states that it has checked in with the SGN server and that there were no new policies, which of course there are.

I can wipe it and rebuild it, but that seems like such a waste of time just to get it to sync the policy.
