Save Visio to network

Has anyone had any problems saving Visio docs to a network drive.  I can copy them to a network drive once created, but I cannot just open Visio, create new doc and then save to a network drive. Visio crashes and you loose any doc you were working on.

we are using

safguard enterprise 5.4

Visio 2007

Windows XP

Novell 4.91 sp5

I have tried it on two machines identical except for Safeguard installed.

I then decrypted the machine and still no luck, but after uninstalling safeguard through add/remove programs, Visio will then save to network drives again.

Not sure if maybe safeguard changes some sort of windows setting or something.

Anyone ever seen anything like this. Thanks, Bill Davies

  • Hi Bill,

we have had a low number of cases in the last weeks - please be so kind and open a support ticket since they should be able to help you with this.

In this case it might be that you need to bring a hot fix on the system.

    Regards

    Dan

  • Daniel,

BillD happens to be one of the customers I work with locally. While onsite yesterday, I helped him collect a trace file and sent it to US Support in Foxboro. The interesting thing is that we were meeting for a completely different reason.

  • For all that read this, BillD sent me a private message with the resolution. Credit goes to Sophos Technical Support's Dan Levesque for the resolution, honorable mention and kudos goes to BillD for posting his findings, and I will mark this post as the resolution for others to find in the future.

    Thank you to everyone involved!

    Hello Bill,

We have seen this issue before with Visio and it seems to be cause by the overlay icon you see in Windows explorer.

To test this, could you please do the following and let me know if this resolves your issue:

If you could open the cmd prompt and change directory into windows\system32 then run the following command:
    regsvr32 /u BE_ShellExt.dll

This should clear up your issue. Please let me know either way.

  • Thank you for this fix. I spent nearly a month fighting this issue, only to finally find that it only occured after performing the encryption. This is very helpful information!
