    Hi system7720,

Thank you for posting your question in the SophosTalk Community forums.

The SSL setting for the client configuration package tells the client that the connection back to the server will use HTTPS. This will work as long as the IIS server has the SSL certificate configured properly and the client has the Root CA certificate, if you are using a self-signed certificate. Please read the document embedded in this KBA for the steps on how to get the SSL certificate configured properly.

The Sophos based connection is using HTTP, but with an encrypted payload. No additional configuration is required on the IIS server is this option is selected and is commonly used in test environments.

Keep in mind, for production deployments, Sophos recommends using the SSL connection type because it offers much better performance.

Your connection failure could be a result of several different factors.

Did that message appear from the systray icon?

Did you configure the client to use SSL but didn't configure the certificate properly on the IIS server or didn't add the Root CA to the client?

Is the Primary Server configured in the client config package to use an IP, hostname or FQDN?

Can you ping the primary server from the client using what's configured as your Primary Server?

I can ask more questions but I feel this is a good start.
