"The Logon User Interface DLL SGGINA.DLL failed to load."

Hi,

One of our users has encountered a problem with sggina.dll. User reported it was not possible to log into Windows.

After logging screen she had encountered an error message: "The Logon User Interface DLL SGGINA.DLL failed to load."

We're using SafeGuard Enterprise 5.60. Has anyone encountered such issue? Any suggestions how to resolve that?

Many thanks,

L.

  • To assist in troubleshooting verify the file actually exists in the following location:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\sggina.dll

    If it's not there, or a different filesize run a repair, that GINA librairy is crutial to the safeguard system

    If it's there verify your GINA registry settings under:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]

    "GinaDLL"="sggina.dll"

    The first GINA in most instances should be the safeguard GINA.  If you're woring with multiple GINA's like for example a smart cart reader system (I.E Trivoli Access Manager) or VPN software like Cisco's VPN client for IPSEC that will require more configuration to fix but try the above first make sure those are in place and that nothing else breaks.

  • Thanks for reply _Joel_.

    Local IT has verified the sggina.dll file does not exist in the location (C:\WINDOWS\system32\). What did you mean by 'run a repair'? The only thing I came up with was to replace DLL.

    Unfortunatelly, we will not be able to troubleshoot the case further as the end user forced to rebuild the machine to have it ready to work today...

    Best regards.

  • In add remove programs you can fix missing DLL problems with SafeGuard by going to Add/Remove Programs, finding the Sophos SafeGuard Client, and clicking "Change", in that menu you will have an option to repair the install.  Would have been faster.
