Sophos SafeGuard 5.60.1 on HP Elite 8100 Small Form Factor

Hi,

I've been installing SDE 5.60.1 on a variety of desktops that have recently been upgraded to Windows 7.  The installation has gone smoothly on every model except the HP Elite 8100.  I have two of these, and the same thing is happening on both of them.  After installing SDE, the systems reboot and then hang at the screen that says "Sophos SafeGuard is starting.   Please wait..."

To troubleshoot, I've upgraded the motherboard BIOS, installed the OS with storage options set to AHCI and IDE mode, and toggled every hot key.  No matter what I try, the system hangs at the previously mentioned screen indefinitely.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

  • I had this issue, the system had dirty filesystems during install and one of the sectors SG 5.6 was installed on has issues which is why it wouldn't get past this.  It may time out after a few minutes which then you can repair the filesystem.  If it doesn't take the drive out, assign the HDD encyrption key to your user, decrypt the drive and repair the filesystem.  Make SURE to do a SMART check and long DST (drive self test) diagnostic with the manufacturers software just to be on the safe side.  Also after you start up the disk and assuming everything is ok AFTER checking everything with it be SURE to run a repair on the software afte, that fixes many common client side corruptions

Also for some unknown reason (possibly because of a sata driver issue in the BSD POA environment) some of these don't have the exact same sata chipset as the previous revision and the overseas version of the board it uses has a completely different one than that but they all identify the same which created an issue with this version I believe that the first time it went through the bootup process for me it took about 10 minutes to get through it the first time after that it was about 5-6 before some kind of timeout occured and it loaded correctly.  So after I fixed the first issue the 2nd issue poppup up for me.

My advice is upgrade at least the clients to SG6 if you can, MUCH faster, better hardware support for POA with DE and several other new feature like the Intel Core i series AES-IN support for crypto acceleration.
