Recover Encrypted Laptop - SGN 5.50.1.17

Hello,

I have encrypted my laptop's hdd partitions with SGN 5.50.1.17. Everything went fine until yesterday when one of my friends entered wrong passwords several times to access my XP account. The computer was at windows login screen because of the password protected screen saver. After every wrong password entered by my friend Sophos extended the time period that has to pass until the next prompt to enter the password. At some point my friend reset the laptop from the power button.

After I powered on the system the POA screen appears but it doesn't matter if I enter the correct password because the OK button is deactivated(grayed). Also the following message appears: "Workstation locked ......." The only solution to access the laptop is using the Challenge/Response method but the server and the keyfile is on the same laptop.

Is there any method to access my laptop without the keyfile and server but only the correct password ?

I think that you would have to go to the Web Helpdesk and do a challenge/responce to unlock the machine.

Hi, how did you go mate ?
My laptop is currently in a state of infinite loop after executing the SGNRollback.exe in on the WIndows PE mode.
SGN v5.5 on WIndows XP

Hello Andrei_R,
many thanks for your forum posting.
If the machine has been locked due to wrong password entries a C/R has to be done. On a Standalone client the keyfile is required to perform a C/R.
If you have further questions please get in touch with Sophos support.
