SafeGuard Management Center 5.50.1.17 - config file and password

Trying to fix the installation for SafeGuard Management Center 5.50.1.17 in our corporate environment. Is there a way to automatically trigger the configuration file and pass in the password so this doesn't have to be a manual step for users and so we don't have to give out the password?

Here's what's going on:

I have the SGNManagementCenter.msi file, and a configuration file that I believe was created by the person who initially set up the Sophos system where I work.

The issue I'm trying to fix is that except for the person who does the install, anyone else trying to run the Management Center on a particular PC is asked to supply a password before going to the SafeGuard Management Center dialog where they select the Security Officer for authentication, etc.

The way the installation currently works is that the MSI runs, then the config file is run (this is all done sequentially by a wrapper script created with Wise Package Studio). When the config file runs, the original packager created an Auto Hot Key script to simulate button clicking in order to type in the password and then click the Cancel button at the subsequent SafeGuard Management Center dialog. The Auto Hot Key script is clunky at best, and doesn't appear to run at all for anyone else who logs into that PC. I'd like to ditch the Auto Hot Key script altogether.

Thanks.

  • Hi sasquatch,

thank you very much for posting your question and welcome to the forum.

With regards to your question I can tell you that your process has not been tested in any way. The usual approach would be to export the database configuration from the Management Center (filename.SGNConfig) and once the Management Center is installed it is possible to double click the file > this will start a password dialog (here you have to enter the PW defined when creating the .SGNConfig file) and then you can start using the Management Center.
