Computer won't boot properly after installation of safeguard.

OK, So, my husband started having problems with his computer, and after describing them to me I told him it sounded like a virus and that he should stop stalling and download the trial version of Sophos AV for now, he tried to do that and it gave him some error message saying it wasn't supported on his OS version and he should download the correct one. So, he goes back to google and searchs for one that would work with Vista. (I apologize I do not know what he typed in the search bar.) He gets led to Safeguard, and he downloads and instals it. I do not know if there were any error messages during installation as I was not told. He comes back to me a few mins later and says that he restarted after the install and now it's not working. It brings hm to a black screen that says:

no init

Press any key to restart or exit

When you press a key, a few more minutes goes by, and it comes up with:

stray irq 7

stray irq 7

stray irq 7

too many stray irqs Not logging anymore

When he phoned into support the guy who answered didn't give him a whole lot of help. Jose said something along the line of "Boot from the disc," but my husband had already told him we had tried and it wouldn't work. Unfortunately for my husband he only has an XP disc, when he runs Vista. We have nothing else we can boot from. Any ideas? (Detailed would be nice.)

Thanx for your time and help in advance. I really hope we can solve this without having to wipe his computer. He apparently has files he never backed up and wishes to not lose.

  • Hi GhostNinja,

thank you very much for posting here.

Actually I can also not say which product you have installed based on the information but to me it seems as if you have installed one of the SafeGuard Encryption products.

At this point it seems as if you are facing a problem with the Power On Authentication of SafeGuard Easy / SafeGuard Enterprise.

The next steps would be to detach all USB devices from the machine (besides the keyboard) and then try again. Should this also not help please check the available hot key combinations at POA level > please use KBA 111919 (http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/111919.html) for further information.

    Regards
