Using Win7 System Image with Sophos Safeguard 5.50.8.13

Hi All,

Does anyone know if it is possible to use Windows 7's 'System Image' backup option with Sophos Safeguard 5.50.8.13?

I would like to make a backup image of my harddrive, but basically I don't want to mess anything up :)

thanks!

- Matt

  • Hi Matt,

welcome to the forum and thank you very much for posting your question.

Actually I can tell you that Windows 7 System Backup has not been tested in combination with SafeGuard Enterprise. But since the disk is encrypted it is not very likely that the restore of the system will be working with SGN installed as the relevant drivers are not included to restore the system and there is also no interface to import them.

The only thing that you could do would be to test it and then to post the result so that we can discuss it here

    Regards
    Dan

  • Is the situation still the same that you haven't tested the possibility to backup/restore using Windows image backup under Safeguard Enterprise?

Is it possible to open an image like that with the PE disk or some other method? I think that the .vhd files are encrypted and cannot be used directly, even though if you just want the files from there.

  • Hi sohannin,

SafeGuard Enterprise / Easy is not being tested for compatibility against Windows Image Backup.

As written above; the files might be taken in an encrypted state, it might be possible to open such an image with the SafeGuard Recovery CD from KBA 108805 SafeGuard Device Encryption: Recovering data from a volume-based encrypted SafeGuard Device Encryption Client  (WinPE 3.0 based system with SafeGuard Filterdriver system) and access those images or even mount the *.vhd's directly on a running Windows 7 Client that is installed with SafeGuard Enterprise (after assigning the encryption key centrally from the console).

... but as you can read from all the "might"s, this has not been tested officially and I cannot tell you if it works or not as I havent tested it myself either.

    Regards,

    Chris
