SGN 5.6 how to change the owner of the computer?

Hi guys,

I have a laptop that is now going to a new user. I have 5.6 installed in it and POA is working fine with the old user, but how can I get it for a new user? I found one old KB link which was "page not found" so now I have to ask again. Is uninstalling the only solution in SGE?

Also I cant find in policy editor any setting which would allow more users to logon to a single computer.

Thank for your help.

  • While it's not a forgotten password issue, the following link should help:

    http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/108795.html

I used this with a laptop quite a few months ago where I had to reset the POA cache.  After doing this, the next non-service account to log on becomes the new owner.

EDIT: I should point out that I used this method with 5.50.8.13 - I see no reason why it shouldn't work with 5.6, and the article does say it's for 5.x

  • Instructions are okay, but I get an error when I`m trying to import the xml file.

"Error occured: no or more than one file in the import directory"

Folder is empty and I tried to make a new file and signed it...nothing helps.

  • I assume you have manually copied the signed xml file into the import directory?  Also, do you have show hidden files enabled?  If you copied earlier xml files across, it's possible they may be there, but just not visible.

  • Here is the solution that solved my problem. hidden files were showing and you can have that one dmy file in import folder and it doesnt matter.

    Import problem is fixed:

    Locate the file: sgmcmdintn.exe

Please then place this file under: Windows\system32

Please then run the ImportUMAoff.vbs and advise whether this then resolves the issue.

This is the solution and you maybe have re-activate our windows 7 license because by copying that file to system32 folder I made my operating system "not genuine".

Sophos support helped me to fix this and really big thanks for them. They saved my day:)
