OSX Boot problem.

Hi all.

We have an iMac.  It was encrypted with Safeguard but the software is still installed.

The only account with Admin' access was suddenly unable to login - we suspect a corrupted profile.

We tried to boot from the install disk but are unable to do so because of the Safeguard login at boot.

We un-encrypted the disk but still get the requirement to do a Safeguard login before the machine will boot and still cannot

boot from the Mac install disk.

We are unable to uninstall Safeguard from a normal user account as the system won't accept the Admin password!

Any suggestions?

We are now considering removing the HDD and erasing it however this will probably invalidate the Apple warranty on the machine.

  • If you have a corrupt mac install and you've decrypted the volume, call support and ask for the OS X SGN Purge Tool.  This tool will purge SGN from your system but ONLY if it's decrypted and shouldn't be used normally because it can be risky to use depending on what other security software was installed so it's not normally distributed to customers.
