SafeGuard Installation on Sony Vaio PCG-31111M

Hi,

I'm having a few problems getting SafeGuard installed on a Sony Vaio PCG-31111M laptop - basically installation proceeds as normal, and after installing the safeguard kernel the POA screen appears then auto logs on as normal.  However, the machine freezes as soon as the Windows 7 startup animation has finished playing, and toggling the various options using the hotkeys hasn't made any difference (well, beneficial difference - I did manage to get the machine to blue screen when using shift-F9 to toggle ACPI/APIC :smileywink: ).  I was initially using version 5.50.1, although using 5.50.8 had exactly the same effect.

I'm suspecting the issue has something to do with the 4 SSD drives in a RAID-0 configuration, but I've not seen anything in the manual to suggest this isn't supported - unless I've missed something of course(???)

Does anyone have any idea what could be going wrong here?  The laptop in question belongs to the CEO, so I'd like to return it in a working state :smileywink:

Cheers

  • I am getting the exact same error with VPCZ11QXG/S

7 x64 Loads the animation then stops.

I have the intel matrix Raid-0 running with 2 ssds. Is there a problem with the bootloader or full disk encrytion? I am using a standalone profile build with the tool on another machine. This is seriously holding up my COO's new laptop.

  • I hate Sony machines... too many random letters all over the place.  I guess the two machines in question are very similar, as the product name for this one is VPCZ11C5E (it was the model I quoted earlier) and it's also running Windows 7 x64.  I've installed safeguard on loads of Win7 x64 machines previously though, so I'm still guessing it's the RAID 0 SSD configuration that's causing the problem.

Either way I'm having to repair and return the laptop now, and just hope that he doesn't lose it!  I'm guessing that since Windows starts loading, then the bootloader is working fine(???)

  • So this has to do with the Sony system's somehow.... I removed the RAID, but there is no option to change the functional mode of the SATA controller.

I am still getting the same error.

    Thanks,

  • Hi all,

so far we have not heard about these issues before.

Can you please be so kind and open a new support request so that we can have a closer look at this issue - when doing so please provide a MSINFO32 report from such a machine saved as NFO file.

    Thank you very much!

    Regards

  • So I have been battling a similar sony system. Sophos' official response was that they do not support raid. Unfortunately, sony has crippled the BIOS such that you can't turn off the intel matrix raid fake driver. I am pretty sure, the system does not switch to ATA or AHCI, it runs the intel matrix is single disk mode.

HOWEVER, i did have the encryption working at one point with the raid on 5.5.01 (first 5.5, whichever)... But I had associated the incorrect domain account with the system and had to rebuild. To save time, I have been reimaging while debugging different versions and working with support....

My best progress before the hanging windows symbol was after a raw/fresh win7x64 installation..

After -re-reading both best practice white papers for bog SGN and SGE, I realized that the raid partition identification was getting screwed up.

IT IS CRITICAL TO BOOT TO A RECOVERY DISC (win7) and repair the BOOT and MBR wiht bootsect.
