Currently using the trial version of SafeGuard for my OS X 10.6.7 Snow Leapord MBP. I am a private individual without a commercial interest, simply looking to secure my personal laptop. My other options at this point are PGP (now Symantec) Whole Disk Encryption for Mac (~$162) and Check Point's FDE product which appears to be unavailable to the general public. And I'd rather not purchase a product from Symantec.
Also, with 5.60 coming in May 2011, what are the new feature sets? The 5.50 trial I'm using currently meets all of my criteria except for encrypting external USB/IEEE 1394 drives. I'd be particularily interested in compatibility with Time Machine. PGP's product provides external disk encryption that is pretty seamless. You plug the disk in, it asks for a password, you type it in, and the disk is available until unmounted. Time Machine sees the disk as normal/unencrypted and is able to do full backups in complete FDE security.
So, in summary:
1) Can I purchase a single license without minimum purchase requirements or being an incorporated entity?
2) What type of maintenance upgrades are included? Symantec is charging extra for upgrades based on a yearly basis.
3) When is FDE for external drives coming? Is it included in 5.60? What other feature sets are included with 5.60?
4) If/when FDE for external drives arrives, will it be compatible with Time Machine?
Thanks for your time!
