SafeGuard screen lock is slow in responding

My company just transitioned and I have a Windows 7 machine with the Sophos SafeGuard 5.60 Control-Alt-Del screen lock implementation and the speed leaves something to be desired.

When my screen is locked and I type Control-Alt-Del, it takes about 3-5 seconds before it responds with a prompt for my password.  When I lock the screen when leaving it for a while, I am used to jabbing the Control-Alt-Del and hitting the return key.  With SafeGuard, I have to wait for a second or more otherwise, I will leave my workstation with the “lock this computer”, etc prompt.

I am used to working with Windows-XP where the response was instantaneous for both.  On XP, I could type the required keys without thinking about it and get on to business.  Now I have to consciously pay attention to the prompts.  This is enough to where I am thinking of re-enabling the Windows screen lock.

Is there anything that can be done about this?

Thanks,

/Bob

  • Hi Bob,

which SafeGuard Enterprise Modules (DeviceEncryption, DataExchange, ConfigurationProtection) do you have installed on your client(s)?

Do you have any additional credential provider implemented in you environment and do you use smartcard/token/fingerprint based two factor authentication to POA and/or Windows?

    Cheers,

    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

There are three Sophos SafeGuard programs listed in the control panel:

    Sophos SafeGuard 5.60.1 Client

    Sophos SafeGuard 5.60.1 Client Configuration

    Sophos SafeGuard 5.60.1 Preinstall

The disk is encrypted. Interestingly, it does not ask for anything from me at power on until Windows is booted completely and I get the initial logon prompt.  (I am not sure how an encryption system can keep the decryption keys with the encrypted data.)

    Thanks for looking at it.

    Regards,

    /Bob

  • I would first upgrade to SafeGuard 6.0, they did a lot of speed/interface improvements in 6.0.
