5.50.1 Installation

So the community is aware, Sophos support are NOT advising installation of 5.50.1 on older i.e. core2-duo style machines, only on the newer i3/5/7 machines. Apparently 5.50.1 is a 'patch' to fix the install issues on these newer platforms and 5.50.0.116 is the advised base install still.

Kind of goes against discussions on this board and I was somewhat surprised myself when support advised this :smileysurprised:

5.50.1 wouldn't install on a Fujitsu Lifebook S6410 when any USB devices were plugged in but 5.50.0 installed fine. There is an issue on these laptops when using non vendor specific HID devices with SGN (such as generic mice etc). But apart from that, 5.50.0.116 works fine.

Also, was not aware until I raised this support issue that they also advise using the POACFG option when installing the SGNClient.msi and that you should read this article: http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/65700.html to obtain the latest configuration.

Think there needs to be some clear advice listed on the product details and download sites and notes against each version please.

    Hi Matt,

    please let me copy my repply that I've made to the same question in a different thread:

    I just double checked things and this is the current situation:

    1. You can install SGN 5.50.1 on boxes with the i core

    2. SGN 5.50.1 is not patch but was a release to enable DX 64 bit support of SGN.

    3. There are no know restrictions (not working any more) that we would know about that apply to FSC 6410. The 6410 does require indeed hot keys to function properly but there is no info that it fails to install in general.

    In case that you encounter a machine that fails to load with SGN 5.50.1 and hot keys applied please raise a support call so that we can have a look at that.

    I would suggest that you install the machine again using the latest POA CFG (65700) file which should have all required hot key settings pre-configured then.

    A list of tested hardware can be found as well under http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/107785.html which has a detailed XLS file included.
