License Count - SGN Vs LanDesk

We've noticed I have 410 in SGN on License Count, but LanDesk, Software Inventory Analyzer is showing 265 clients.

My question is, if someone returns a machine to the Help Desk, does it fall out of SGN or how does remain in SGN?

  • Hi Kpayton,

I see that there is another post from you. Sorry for the delay.

SGN licensing tracks how many devices have "called home" to the SGN Server. You can remove a device from AD, synch that change with SGN and it will reclaim the license. The other method is to manually delete the computer from the SGN MC to reclaim that license.

If the computer is removed from the SGN MC by either method and reconnects again in the future it will consume another license. I guess it's a by product of the architecture to help our customers find "lost" devices in their environment.

I'm not the LanDesk expert, but if LanDesk is only checking for online and available devices that could also help explain why there is such a large variance between software license counts.
