Unsupported Sophos Safeguard Mac firmware

I just bothered to check the required firmware on our Intel Macs that we are about to install Sophos on.  Every one has the unsupported firmware value of :

    | |   "firmware-abi" = <"EFI32">

What are the implications of running under unsupported firmware, is it possible to update the firmware to the supported version?

TIA,

  • Hi Alex,

welcome to the forum. WIth regards to your question I can only tell you that it is planned to have a EFI32 version at some point but there is no time line.

In order to get the product running on your machines you would require a 64bit EFI. In order to get further details whether your machines can be updated to a 64 bit EFI please contact Apple since we have  no information about this.

    Thank you very much.

    Regards

    Dan

  • Thanks Dan.  Appreciate the feedback.

It appears that the late 2006/2007 Macs can't get a firmware from Apple that will allow them to get a 64 bit EFI.  Since these Macs will "die out", I don't expect any update from Apple, but who knows.

  • EFI32 support ships beginning 2011.
