Decrypt SGE drive with corrutped windows

Hi,

I have Safeguard Easy installed on my windows xp laptop. For some reason my windows got corrupted, such that now I can start bootign windows but after a while the system crashes. I would like to get my data from the HDD. How can I decrypt the HDD without booting windows?

Thanks,

Arne Kant

  • Hello David,

    I'm in the same situation.

    My new Dell E6510 is hard-disk-encrypted with (centrally managed by the company) SGE 5.50.116 showed strange behaviour as folder disappeared and "missing drivers" messages arose.

    I'm able to start, as the initial SGE screen appears and select "removable support" option in order boot up from the "Sophos emergency  CD/Winpe.

    I tried to restore the normal functionality as follows:

    - restarted sophos/winpe emergency disk;

    - performed scandisk: now I see just 18 out of 190GB of data / several forders and files disappeared;

    - bought a new HD, exaclty same model (st9250410AS);

    - cloned the entire drive by dd_rescue

    I tried with NTFS as same as raw scan on the cloned drive, using various data recovery tools but I obtained just scattered chunk of files, unreadable.

    Therefore, I'd like to know what can be done to ensure the condition to recover data by means of the data recovery tools (suggestions about a valid tools?)  if it wold be necessary to decrypt the drive, what is the process tu uninstall SGE in my scenario.

    Thank you in advance

    Francesco
