SafeGuard Disk Encryption 5.50

Our company has been using SafeGuard Easy Disk Encryption 4.6 to encrypt laptop computers using a Standalone installation.  This version did not support Windows 7, or x64 architecture.  The new version SGDE 5.50 now supports Windows 7 and x64.  However, it appears that everything has changed, and now requires a server install along with policy configuration to create an msi installation package for roll-out to individual laptops (centrally managed?).

I'd like to continue with a basic stand-alone installation on the laptops, and leave out the SQL database, policy editor, server side part of this.  Is there any way to do this in version 5.50?  Or, are we stuck with the policy editor server-side installation?

thank you.

Brett

  • As I understand it you could carry on doing standalone installations of SDE 5.5 without the server software but you'd be stuck with the default policies.  There doesn't appear to be a stand alone policy editor on the client anymore, so yes I guess you're stuck with the server-side policy editor.
