Safeguard Data Exchange

I have been tasked to replace a merged company's port control software with Safeguard. It is pointsec actually :smileywink:

But i notice pointsec has a feature which i am not sure if it exists in Safeguard.

I was shown a guide which when a pointsec EPM protected thumbdrive is plugged in, the drive identifies itself as "EPM Encrypted Disk", user cannot see the contents.  When user double click to access, a program runs and challenges for a password, after correct password is supplied, the drive is visible.

I assume this is some sort of partition or volume based encryption. What interests me is the pointsec program automatically running when you access the drive. Safeguard has SG Portable, but can it run automatically? If it can run automatically when plugged into a non-safeguard PC that would be wonderful..

  • Hi ivanwee,

SGPortable is called via an autorun (that gets installed when SGPortable is installed on the removable media).

Obviously not everyone allows autorun. :smileywink:

NB: In SafeGuard it's suggested that removable media is encrypted with file, and not volume encryption. You can still gain transparent access to the data if you have the same keys in your keychain, know the passphrase associated with the key/s, or know the media passphrase for the removeable media.

    Regards,

    John
