Uninstalling Sophos from Mac when app removed by throwing it into the bin.

Hi,

I tried to uninstall Sophos by throwing the app into the bin, which was unsuccessful as the as I still get regular update notifications (pop-ups). How do I remove the remnants of the antivirus, please? These constant reminders are getting extremely irritating and I have to way to remove them.

Thanks!

  • Hello,

I have solution, you just need to follow this steps:

    • Use the Remove Sophos Endpoint tool
      1. Click the keys command + spacebar to open Spotlight.
      2. Type Remove Sophos.
Note: If the tool exists or has not been moved to Trash, Spotlight will find it.
      3. Click enter to run the tool.
Note: Sophos Anti-Virus cannot be uninstalled by dragging it from the Applications folder to the Trash.
    • Use the standalone Sophos anti-virus removal tool.
    • Use the terminal.
    • If you are prompted for a password,
      Type your macOS administrator password.
    • Enter the tamper protection password set in your policy.
    • If the uninstall still fails following the steps above, collect the SDU logs from the affected macOS then send it to Sophos Support.

  • Hey!

There are still 2 files left:
    /System/Volumes/Data/private/var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default/groups/_sophos.plist
    /System/Volumes/Data/private/var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default/users/_sophos.plist

As I understand, that is MacOS password cache DB. Do you know how how to remove those 2 files as well? Would be glad for the help.
